Additional modules added to "Pronouncing Chinese Names" online workshop
The East Asian Studies Center has now made 22 additional video modules available in its "Pronouncing Chinese Names" online workshop. Created to help faculty and staff at The Ohio State University learn to pronounce Chinese names, Part 1 of the series was launched in early Autumn 2017 with 17 video modules.
Students from China make up a large portion of the international student population at Ohio State, and EASC has heard from numerous faculty and staff that they would like to make these students feel welcome and a part of the community by pronouncing their names as accurately as possible. To this end, EASC partnered with former graduate student of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, Donglin Chai, to offer an online workshop, "Pronouncing Chinese Names.” The mini-lecture includes information on names in China, provides pronunciation tips, gives advice on how to handle Chinese students’ adoption of Western names, and includes practice sessions pronouncing common names in China.
The videos are available as single files on EASC's YouTube Channel, as playlists on our YouTube Channel, and on the EASC Website.
