Japanese Language Instruction

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL) offers a comprehensive program in the language and culture of Japan. In addition to five levels of Japanese language and two semesters of Classical Japanese, faculty teach a range of courses: from introductions to Japanese culture, literature in translation, and linguistics to film and media.

DEALL offers a multi-track program in Japanese language, under the leadership of Professors Mari Noda, Charles Quinn, and Etsuyo Yuasa. DEALL's Japanese Language Program is nationally known for the quality. Information on scholarships and financial aid is available in our Fellowships section.

The Japanese Language Program includes 5 levels of instruction in 3 formats: Regular classroom, Individualized Instruction, and Intensive classroom in both academic year and summer. Coverage of contents is consistent across all tracks. For more detailed information on Japanese language courses and the Japanese Individualized Instruction program, visit DEALL's Japanese Program page.
