언어는 사회를 비추는 거울이며, 특히 신어는 한 사회가 경험하는 변화와 시대정신을 가장 민감하게 담아내는언어적 기록이다. 이 특강에서는 최근 한국 사회에서 널리 사용되는 신어들을 단순히 새로운 표현으로소개하는 데 그치지 않고, 그 이면에 자리한 사회·문화적 변화를 함께 살펴본다. 전통적 가치관의 변화, 개인주의의 확산, 경쟁과 능력주의의 심화, 새로운 생존 전략의 등장, 계층의식의 확대 등 현대 한국 사회의주요 특징을 신어를 통해 읽어 봄으로써, 언어와 사회가 어떻게 서로 영향을 주고받으며 변화하는지를이해하고자 한다.
Language reflects society, and neologisms are among the most sensitive linguistic indicators of social and cultural change. Rather than simply introducing newly coined Korean words, this lecture explores what these expressions reveal about contemporary Korean society. By examining neologisms associated with changing family values, the rise of individualism, meritocracy and competition, new survival strategies in the labor market, and growing awareness of social inequality, participants will gain insight into how language both records and reflects social transformation. Through the lens of neologisms, the lecture offers a unique perspective on the values, concerns, and realities of present-day Korea.
Prof. Shin-hye Nam received her Ph.D. in Korean Linguistics from Yonsei University and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Korean Language and Literature at Kyung Hee University. Her research and teaching focus on Korean language education as a second language and corpus linguistics. More recently, her work has expanded to include corpus pragmatics and the application of artificial intelligence to language research and education.
