The East Asian Studies Center at The Ohio State University joins people everywhere in mourning the recent shootings in Atlanta. Although the details of this tragedy are still under investigation, it is important to recognize that it comes during a time of skyrocketing violence and discrimination against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities across the United States, particularly against AAPI women. Bigotry and hatred have no place in central Ohio or anywhere else in this nation. The East Asian Studies Center condemns all such deplorable actions, and reaffirms its commitment to activities that promote respect, understanding, and friendship.
