Professor Julia Andrews guest curates exhibit in Hong Kong

Painting Her Way graphic

Professor Julia Andrews, Distinguished University Professor, History of Art, has guest curated an exhibit at the Hong Kong Jockey Club from September 27 – December 31, 2017.  Painting Her Way: The Ink Art of Fang Zhaoling features a selection of paintings and calligraphy by the distinguished female artist Fang Zhaoling (1914-2006). Fang studied three leading Chinese painters with very different styles. She also received a Western-style education in Hong Kong and England. Her many artistic achievements and contributions to modern Chinese culture are evidence of women’s changing roles in the twentieth century. The exhibition, part of Asia Society Hong Kong Center’s 20th Century Chinese Female Artist Series, is guest curated by Kuiyi Shen and Julia F. Andrews, with Joyce Hei-ting Wong as assistant curator.
