Goss Returns to Ohio State, Meets with Students of Japanese Linguistics

The Institute for Japanese Studies hosted an engaging lunch session with DEALL alumnus Dr. Seth Goss of Emory University on April 20th, bringing together graduate students from East Asian Studies Center (EASC), the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (DEALL), and the College of Education and Human Ecology's Multilanguage Education program.

During the session, students had the opportunity to ask Dr. Goss a wide range of questions. He discussed his time as a graduate student at Ohio State, his current teaching experiences at Emory, his responsibilities as a department director, and his ongoing career as a researcher. The conversation also turned to the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in academia, where Dr. Goss shared practical insights on how AI can be effectively integrated into research.

As a proud DEALL alumnus, Dr. Goss generously outlined his career trajectory, providing valuable advice and actionable takeaways for current students. His experience provides an inspiring roadmap for students preparing to navigate the current academic landscape.

This lunch session and the special lecture by Dr. Goss were sponsored by the Institute for Japanese Studies, DEALL, and the Department of Linguistics.
