EASC is excited to announce the new cohort of five interns for the Autumn 2026 semester. Learn more about the interns and their interests in East Asia!

Aki Emery (far left) is majoring in Communication, Analysis, and Engagement. “My interest in East Asia stems from my mom who comes from Kobe, Japan. I hope that this internship will teach me more about Korea and China and better understand all cultures and traditions!” 

Tyler Mahaffey (middle left) is majoring in International Studies and minoring in Chinese. “I am interested in East Asia because of its modern and historical significance!”

Lily Schroeder (middle right) is majoring in International Affairs and Political Science. “I decided to intern with EASC because I wanted to learn more about international relations within East Asia, and use the opportunity to meet speakers and attend events that would allow me to explore this interest!”

Aubrey Willis (far right) is majoring in International Studies and minoring in Japanese, Public Policy, and Women and Gender studies. “I was originally interested in East Asia because my cousin did the JET program (teaching English in Japan) but I’ve gotten really invested in my own Japanese studies!”

Sharika Thaploo (not pictured) is majoring in International Relations and minoring in Global Public Health and Public Policy. “I’m interested in East Asian Studies because I’ve had a long interest in Chinese American diplomatic relations and how interconnected the two countries are. I intend on learning Chinese as well, so it felt like the center was the best way to grow and develop!”
