The East Asian Studies Center and the Department for East Asian Languages and Literatures hosted a Japanese interpretation workshop Monday, May 9 - Friday, May 13. The workshop was led by Dr. Anna Elliott, who has been teaching Japanese interpretation courses at Boston University for many years.

Thirteen undergraduate and graduate students from OSU participated in the workshop, where they practiced their skills by interpreting everything from formal public speeches to business presentations to casual conversations on Japanese culture. Students were actively engaged and used skills they had gained in Japanese classes, allowing them to interpret not only main messages but also subtle nuances of a variety of genres.

If funding allows, EASC and DEALL plan to offer similar courses or workshops in the future, so as to continue to support empowerment and professionalization of students.
