Seojin Kim

Abstract: In this session, Ms. Seojin Kim, a Korean traditional percussion specialist, will offer an engaging introduction to the world of Korean traditional music. She will highlight key musical instruments and provide insights into the structure and performance practices of the Korean traditional orchestra. The session will also feature live demonstrations of traditional percussion, allowing participants to experience the rhythmic depth, expressive nuance, and cultural significance of Korea’s musical heritage. Through explanation and performance, Ms. Kim will guide attendees toward a richer understanding of Korean traditional music and its contemporary relevance.

Ms. Seojin Kim is a Korean traditional taak (percussion) musician. She graduated from the Korea National University of Arts, where she specialized in Musicology and Traditional Korean Percussion. Ms. Kim serves as a youth education member of the Jeongak Orchestra at the National Gugak Center. She has performed widely both in Korea and internationally, including engagements in China, Mongolia, Japan, the Philippines, and the United States. Through her performances and educational activities, Ms. Kim is dedicated to sharing the artistry and expressive depth of Korean traditional percussion with diverse audiences around the world.
