Journalist and filmmaker Jennifer Lin will discuss her documentary film in progress, Beyond Yellowface. This film shines a light on the persistence of anti-Asian stereotypes in ballet and explores current advocacy work to make ballet more inclusive. Jennifer will discuss themes of race, ethnicity, and representation in the United States, and will reflect on her process of putting this film together.
A veteran journalist and former foreign correspondent in China, Jennifer Lin created the documentary Beethoven in Beijing, as well as a companion book on the Philadelphia Orchestra's China legacy (Temple U. Press, 2022). Lin worked as a reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer with postings as a correspondent in New York, Washington and Beijing. She's the author of three books, including a family memoir, Shanghai Faithful.
