Freeman Foundation East Asia Internship Scholarship

Ohio State’s East Asian Studies Center, with generous funding form the Freeman Foundation, will provide scholarships to select undergraduate students to participate in summer internships in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, or other select Asian countries.

Scholarship applicants have two options. Track One is for students who choose to pursue an internship arranged through Ohio State’s Office of International Affairs. These global education programs include Fisher Global Internships: Japan, Fisher Global Internships: Singapore, Education Abroad Network (TEAN): Tokyo Internship, Kyoto University of Advanced Sciences--Internship (for engineering students), ISA Internship Program in Seoul, South Korea, and ISA Advanced Language Internship Program in Seoul, South Korea. These programs are run by "third-party providers" and include support services, such as meeting students at the airport and having an on-site resident director. Students choosing this option must apply for the desired internship program separately and then also submit an application for a Freeman Foundation East Asia Internship Scholarship, which would provide funding for up to $6,500 of the costs associated with the program.

Track Two is for students who hope to use scholarship funds for internships approved directly by the East Asian Studies Center. In this case, the scholarship awards (up to $6,500) would go directly to students to cover airfare, housing, and other expenses. Track Two internships would not include some of the support services which third-party providers offer for Track One programs. For students hoping to pursue Track Two, please contact EASC to determine if there are any internship openings.

Specific placements and participating companies and organizations may vary. Attend one of the online information sessions to learn more about placements.
