Applications are now being accepted for the OIA Area Studies Centers' 2022-2023 K-12 Global Fellowship Program. The program's aim is to connect teachers from across the state of Ohio in a series of discussion group sessions that focus on contemporary issues from a global perspective. The sessions will take place on Saturdays throughout the 2022-2023 academic year from 9AM-12PM via remote delivery.
Participation will depend on the completion and acceptance of a program application and attendance at all sessions is required. The program cohort will be limited to 40 pre- and in-service teachers and each participant will receive 1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU) and text resources to use in their classrooms for completing the program. Two weeks prior to each session, participants will be provided with a reading to prepare in advance and each session will include a lecture by a guest expert followed by group discussion.
The theme for this year’s program is “Global Youth Culture and Subcultures” In this year’s program teachers will learn about different youth cultures and subcultures in East Asia, Eastern Europe/Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. This topic will inform educators on how different subcultures may have ties to different political, cultural, and/or social movements and ideologies. Participating educators will then be able to bring back what they've learned to their own classrooms to help students understand and learn about people their own age in different parts of the world. Final dates and subtopics for all sessions will be announced in June 2022.

The seminar is organized by the Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies Center (CSEEES), in partnership with the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS), East Asian Studies Center (EASC), and the Middle East Studies Center (MESC) with support from the U.S. Department of Education Title VI Grants.
