"Teaching about Asia" seminar to begin in Delaware on January 17

With generous support from the Freeman Foundation, EASC coordinates the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA) programs for the state of Ohio. NCTA is an eleven-week seminar series that provides 6-12th grade teachers with the knowledge, resources and expert guidance needed to incorporate or enhance curriculum about East Asia in their classrooms. Teachers who enroll in an NCTA seminar uncover a wealth of information and experience on China, Japan and Korea-- all right here in Ohio.

Since 2004, seminars in Akron, Athens, Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Granville, Marietta, Oberlin, Oxford, Toledo, and Wooster have given over 220 Ohio teachers a strong background in Chinese, Japanese and Korean history and culture, which they have passed on to Ohio middle and high school students. In Winter 2013, the East Asian Studies Center is partnering with Ohio Wesleyan University's Professor Anne Sokolsky to offer a seminar on the Delaware campus of Columbus State Community College. The seminar, which runs from January 17 to March 28, will reach 20 educators, resulting in 60 new lesson plans for the NCTA-Ohio lesson plan bank and available to educators around the world.
