Call For Papers: ICS Graduate Forum 2019

The Institute for Chinese Studies (ICS) is now accepting papers for its ninth ICS Graduate Forum. This year’s Forum will be held on Thursday, 7 March 2019 from 5:30-8:30 pm in Page Hall 020.

ICS is especially interested in inviting graduate students whose abstracts have been accepted for presentation at a regional, national or international conference, as well as those who would like to avail themselves of the opportunity to present on their research before a diverse crowd of students and faculty with avid interest in China, or in East Asia generally.

Topics for presentation may deal with any aspect of China or the Chinese language from all disciplines. Students presenting at the annual meeting of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS), for example, have often presented at previous ICS Graduate Research Forums and would be welcomed and encouraged to do likewise this year.

Presenters are allotted a total of 20 minutes: 15 minutes for presentation + 5 minutes for Q&A. Those presenting at a conference where they are allotted more than 20 minutes in total (e.g., AAS panels) may request a longer time slot so as to match their grad forum presentation time with the duration of their allotted conference time.

For graduate students who are not delivering a conference presentation this spring but would nonetheless like to use this opportunity to practice delivering a conference-style presentation, by all means, do consider submitting an abstract. We have had students in past years who have benefited from the experience.

    9. Abstract (one page, including references)
   10. Duration of time slot (if over 20 minutes)
   11. Time conflict between 5:30 and 8:30 pm (e.g., A class that day begins at 5:20 p.m., or ends at 5:15 p.m. This will assist with scheduling of the program.)
