The Area Studies Centers, led by the Center for Slavic and East European Studies, of The Ohio State University's Office of International Affairs will host the 2017 Global Teachers Seminar. The seminar is for in-service and pre-service Ohio middle and high school teachers.
The weeklong seminar aims to inform teachers on global human rights and to provide pedagogical training to help teachers incorporate new content into their curriculum. The seminar will deepen teachers' understandings of the evolution of human rights norms from an historical perspective by providing detailed case studies of human rights atrocities from around the world. Topics include:
The Armenian Genocide and diaspora
The Somali Civil War and refugees in Ohio
North Korean prison camps and state repression
The Colombian Civil War and peace agreement
Transitional justice and mechanisms for post-conflict reconciliation
Human Trafficking at home and abroad
