These past few years have brought unprecedented uncertainty into students’ lives. But the world language classroom can support students in unique and unexpected ways! In this workshop we will explore how language learning can develop communication skills and self-confidence to build learners’ resilience and support their mental health. Participants will acquire strategies to help learners lower their affective barriers and develop healthy relationships.

Elena Kamenetzky-sensei is a Japanese teacher at Eastern High School in Louisville, KY. She is a recipient of the 2021 ACTFL National Language Teacher of the Year and the 2020 SCOLT (Southern Conference of Language Teaching) Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award.
