Yifan Li (History of Art) will present "The New Architectural Wonder in Space and Time: Visualizing the Nanjing Yangzi River Bridge in Mao’s China." Prof. Hayana Kim (DEALL) will speak about “Futures of Activism: Hologram Protest, or Performing Democracy in Post-Dictatorial South Korea.” Hannah Slater (History of Art) will present on: “Staging the Disasterscape: Fujii Hikaru's Alternative Landscapes after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, Tsunami, and Nuclear Disaster." Prof. Melissa Curley (Comparative Studies) will speak on “Buddhas, Ghosts, and the Future Anterior.” These papers will respond to themes raised in this year's "Asian Futures" lecture series, namely the relationship between materiality, technology, and imaginations of the future in contemporary and historical East Asia. Invited speakers in the EASC 2023-2024 "Asian Futures" lecture series, Michael Fisch (University of Chicago, Anthropology), Lin Zhang (University of New Hampshire, Communications), and Joseph Jeon (UC Irvine, English & Asian American Studies) will join OSU presenters in a roundtable discussion on the theme of "Asian Futures" as they are defined in relation to technological change. Panelists will elucidate and define keywords related to "Asian Futures" that resonate across disciplinary divides and inform the ongoing evolution of the Asian Studies field.
