This course introduces Chen-style Tai Chi martial arts forms and embodied Chinese philosophy, the concept of qi and yin-yang. Tai Chi integrates core-initiated, intentional movements emphasizing conscious breathing and deeply personal engagement. It aims to strengthen, relax, and integrate the physical body and mind, enhance the natural flow of qi, and improve health, balance, and self-awareness. Tai Chi can be fruitful for students with all levels of movement experience. For students who want to explore movement possibilities for their artistic endeavor, it is a great source for experimentation other than Western movement logic. For non-majors, Tai Chi is a practice of meditation in motion that promotes bodily strength, flexibility, and mental health and advance self-cultivation and cultural fluency.
