Registration required: Registration link Workshop details: Go real: Create Authentic Learning Experience for All Learners  来真的:为学生创造实境式教学体验 Session description:  外语教学的主要目的是让学生将所学的语言技能应用到现实生活中。在中文教学中实施实境式教学能够让学生在真实语境下学习新知识,使教学内容和任务与学生的甚或紧密相连、让学生了解真实世界的问题及解决之道。这种教学方式可以即丰富了学习内涵,也使学生感受到学习中文的乐趣兵获得成就感。 本讲座将讲解什么是实境式教学, 展示可以为学生提供哪些实境式学习体验、如何提供实境式教学体验、如何设计实境式学习活动。讲员还会分享如何在中文教学中选择和使用适合学生语言水平的真实语料。参会者将有机会与讲员和其他参会者互动讨论,亲身体验实境式教学的活动并将所学的技巧应用到自己的教学实践中。 World language teaching and learning focus on preparing students to apply communicative skills in the real-world situations. Implementing authentic learning in Chinese class allows students to learn the target language and culture in a real-life context, make the content and tasks relevant to students, and solve real-life problems. It will engage student to reach higher level of language proficiency and feel more successful.  This hand-on workshop will demonstrate what kinds of authentic learning opportunities can be provided in Chinese class, and how to provide the experience to students. The presenter will share how to design instructional activities using authentic materials as well. Participants will have a chance to actively interact with each other and will walk away with a toolkit that will assist them to provide authentic learning experience in their own teaching practice.  Workshop led by: Yan Wang Yan Wang is a certified K-12 Chinese language teacher with leadership endorsement in Fayette County Public Schools(FCPS), Kentucky. She has more than 15 years of experience in teaching Chinese as foreign language in the US and 8 years in teaching college Russian in China. She holds master’s degrees in education, and Russian Language and Literacy. Before coming to the U.S., she was an associate professor teaching Russian in North-East University, China. She has been serving district world language proficiency lead and elementary world language department chair since 2017, district lead Chinese teacher andinstructional lead for FCPS STARTALK programs since 2010.  After graduating from The Asia Society Leadership Development and Deep Coaching Programs in 2019, she started to coach a high school Chinese program under the supervision of Asia Society Chinese Learning Initiatives. She had participated in the K-2 FLES Chinese Curriculum Design Project sponsored by Center for Applied Linguistics (Washington, DC). She currently is a board member of Chinese Language Association for Elementary- Secondary Schools (CLASS), Her expertise covers curriculum design, authentic learning, student-centered learning, and arts integration.  Yan’s dedication and passion on language learning and teaching was highly recognized in state and national level. She was named as 2019 CLASS Outstanding Chinese Teacher, 2019 National Network for Early Language Learners (NNELL) - KY Early Language Teacher of the Year, 2012 Kentucky Outstanding Chinese Teacher, and received the North America Ailing Guang Memorial Teaching Scholarship in 2019, CLTA Professional Development Award in 2012.    If you require an accommodation, such as live captioning, to participate in this event, please contact Janet Smith at smith.12674@osu.edu or 614-292-3345.
