Join the East Asian Studies Center for a career talk by Brian Gibel, U.S. Department of State, as he discusses life in the Foreign Service, the opportunities and challenges of working overseas, and the most pressing issues concerning the East Asian region.
Bio: Brian Gibel is a Foreign Service Officer at the U.S. Department of State and currently serving a one-year outside detail assignment on the Committee for Foreign Affairs in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Brian has sixteen years of experience serving at embassies and consulates overseas in China, Korea, and Pakistan. In preparation for those assignments he has studied Chinese, Korean, and Urdu.
Brian holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and master’s degrees from The Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy and the University of Sydney in Australia. A native of New York, he and his wife Dr. Hyun Hee Kim have a nine-year old daughter.
