In the inaugural year of 1984, approximately 7,000 students took the test worldwide. Growing exponentially in popularity, in 2014, more than 600,000 students in 60 countries took the test including 4,500 in the U.S. at 15 different test sites. The JLPT measures the ability to communicate and looks at “Language Knowledge,” “Reading,” and “Listening.”  There are 5 levels (N1, N2, N3, N4 and N5) with N1 being the most difficult. The JLPT will be given in the U.S. on Sunday, December 6, 2015.
